It comes as no mystery that I love wine, but something maybe you didn’t know about me is that I love shoes just as much. When a woman puts on the perfect pair of shoes, she is unstoppable. Something that hasn’t been considered is how similar shoes and wine can really be. The artisan who designs and crafts the shoe is as the winemaker. Each creative choice made in production affects the end result. We choose which pair of shoes to put on our feet because it makes us feel a certain way. The same goes for the kind of wines we choose to drink.
When I looked at my shoe collection I saw so many personalities…sophisticated, luxurious, bubbly, serious, fun, animalistic etc. Needless to say when I looked at my wine collection, I could describe it as the same. It was in that moment when I realized the two could be paired!
Manolo Blahnik & Quintessa’s Illumination (Sauvignon Blanc)
When I tried Illumination the first thing I told the winemaker was, “it’s like summer in a bottle!” Bright acidity and citrus fruits rock the boat with this Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc pairing perfectly with these Manolo’s! I wear these colorful shoes all summer long, and they are my “go-to” when I’m looking for something light, fun and not too serious. However don’t get me wrong, the shoes and wine may be light and fun, but there’s still a complexity element quite apparent within the seams!
Sergio Rossi & Pierre Péters Rosé Champagne
I think the first word that comes to mind is elegance. This champagne is beautifully balanced, bright, with strawberry and mineral on the palate. There’s something so luxurious about drinking bubbly that was carefully crafted in such a romantic region. The same could be said for these Sergio Rossi heels handcrafted with Strass crystals. They are everything that you could except from Sergio Rossi when it comes to femininity, craftsmanship, and elegance. They are a match made in heaven!
Saint Laurent & Château Canon Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé
The ultimate sophistication. Velvety tannins and immense finesse from this exquisite right bank Bordeaux. It comes as no surprise that I would pair it with these Saint Laurent velvet stilettos in a Bordeaux color. As Bordeaux wines evolve both in barrels and in bottles, Saint Laurent has also evolved over the past five decades as a complete lifestyle brand. This luscious duo is the epitome of class and savor vivre. Best worn at The Pierre or Plaza.
Gianvito Rossi & Veuve Cliquot
The life of the party! Veuve Cliquot is notorious in NYC for being where the action is. Whether it’s in the Hamptons or on a rooftop, this champagne house brings the energy! The same can be said for these metallic cracked leather booties by Gianvito Rossi. Full of spark, these shoes are perfect for a fun, social affair. Although both win the popularity contest, we cannot forget the history and family roots driven deep into their DNA’s.
Christian Louboutin & La Querciola Donna Bianca Barolo
Sexy and animalistic are the first two words that jump out in my mind when I think of this match. The black cherry, leather and tar on the nose of this Barolo is best paired with these Louboutin heels constructed with leopard print pony hair. I save these heels for date night at L’Artusi or some other seductive West Village restaurant. The tannins of this Barolo are almost as bold as these red bottoms!
Shoes and wine are not so different after all...each processes a personality, attitude, finesse, and sense of craftsmanship. I also can't forget to mention they both help in the confidence department! Stay tuned for part 2 as I dig deeper into my closet.
