Upgrade Your 4th of July with Beaujolais

The 4th of July is upon us which means the family cookouts, picnics and gatherings will be ensuing from sea to shining sea. Whether you’re hosting the party or contributing to someone else’s, it’s important to choose a wine that everyone can get on board with. Beaujolais is your one stop region for wine that will pair with 4th of July basics like macaroni salad & corn on the cob, but is also refined enough to accompany delights like goat cheese stuffed dates & bacon wrapped scallops.

The Beaujolais region is located in eastern France just north of Lyon. The sunny weather and granite-based terroir make these wines perfectly fruit-forward while still maintaining a beautiful structure. Gamay is the varietal found in all red and rosé Beaujolais while Chardonnay is the grape found in a white Beaujolais wine. The entire region is hand-harvested which means only the very best grapes are chosen to go into that bottle of joy!

Ready to upgrade your celebration of Independence? It’s no secret that New Yorkers are obsessed with their rosé, so this is the perfect opportunity to introduce your family & friends to Beaujolais…I promise they will be impressed! Keep your basics like fruits, macaroni salad and corn on the cob but instead of burgers and hot dogs, upgrade to something more elegant like sun-dried tomato pesto and goat cheese turkey burgers. The complexity of the wine stands up to the turkey and goat cheese while not overpowering the spinach and sun-dried tomato pesto. I’ve included my famous recipe below!

1. 1lb 99% lean ground turkey meat

2. Extra virgin olive oil

3. 1 tsp minced garlic

3. 1/2 medium red onion (chopped)

4. 1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs

5. 2 Tbsp sun-dried tomato pesto (plus more for toppings)

6. 1/2 cup goat cheese

7. 1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt

8. 1tsp onion powder

9. 1tsp garlic powder

10. Spinach (for toppings)

11. Sesame seed buns

1. Coat the skillet with the olive oil on medium heat

2. Combine all ingredients into a mixing bowl and hand-knead until all is evenly mixed

3. Roll mixture into a palm-sized ball and then flatten out into a patty

4. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side (or until evenly browned)

5. Toast buns and spread a tsp amount of sun-dried tomato pesto on top bun

6. Top with spinach and enjoy!

Whether you’re preparing for a summer party or having a movie night in the dead of winter, it’s important to choose a well-rounded wine that will pair well with just about any food and appease the crowds. Choose a Beaujolais with confidence knowing you’ve automatically just enhanced your experience!
